Each summer the Old Kirk hosts a non-denominational holiday club for primary school aged children. While we’ve become one of the biggest holiday clubs in our area (and probably the noisiest!), our aim remains simple: to communicate the love of God in Jesus in a fun and exciting way.
Over the last twelve years, we’ve grown in size (and noise!) thanks to the fantastic support of our Kirk Session, Congregation and the families of the children. And that’s not forgetting our amazing team of leaders who make it all possible..
TeamBuilders 2018: Monday 23 to Friday 27 July & Sunday 29 July
TeamBuilders, our 2018 Holiday Club, runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday with doors opening at 10.15am each day. As always, admission is free (donations are welcome and will go towards the costs of crafts, materials and snacks for Holiday Club).
TeamBuilders has a sports theme so we’re inviting athletes and competitors to join us at the Old Kirk Stadium for our biggest Holiday Club yet! Sports not your thing? Don’t worry, we won’t be making you do 100 metre sprints! It’ll be another action packed week with all the noise, mess, music and mayhem of which we’re known for!
The ‘TeamBuilders Closing Ceremony’, our end of Holiday club celebration and BBQ event, will take place on Sunday 29 July.
Our annual celebration event is always massively popular (and full of surprises!) so remember to bring your family and friends so they can find out more about what we’ve been doing. It’s nothing like a normal service (our presenters previous entrances have included water pistols, shopping trolleys and scooters!) so expect videos, music, mess, mayhem but but most of all, expect the unexpected! And don’t worry if it rains, we have wet weather plans in place just in case!
How do I book a place at Holiday Club?
TeamBuilders is fully booked but our waiting list is available! Bookings opened on Saturday 2 June and we had an amazing response with all places booked within half an hour! With over 120 children registered, our 2018 Holiday Club will be our biggest (and best!) yet!
If you don’t get a place this year then please don’t be too disappointed. While we can’t guarantee that extra places will come up after the booking window closes, we always try to make more available if possible. If you’ like to join our waiting list, please email Diane.
If your child is unable to attend Holiday Club then please let us know as soon as possible so that we can reallocate their place to someone on our waiting list.
What will we be doing at Holiday Club?
If you’ve been to Holiday Club at the Old Kirk before then you’ll know that anything can happen and we promise that this year is no exception! As we like surprises, we’re keeping our plans under wraps for a little longer but we guarantee a week packed with laughs, action and surprises!
In general, our Holiday Club programme runs as follows:
Team Time: Taking place in their team’s dedicated area, some small craft activities.
Hall: All teams in Church Hall. Songs, videos and general mayhem!
Team Time: Team area. Including some time to learn about today’s bible story, our main craft activity and to participate in some games. Snacks and juice are provided (including fruit).
Hall: All teams in Church Hall. More songs, more noise, more mayhem!
Departure: Children will receive their daily newsletter and have the opportunity to take home any crafts etc before leaving.
On Wednesday 25 July, we’re having a special ‘Heroes Day’ where we’re looking for everyone to come dressed as their favourite hero. Let your imagine go wild! Sports heroes, SuperHeros and Princesses are very welcome! (the TeamBuilders Team will be dressing up too!)
We’ll be running daily competitions which will be announced via our Holiday Club newsletter ‘Team Talk’ – this will be handed out each day but will also be available to download here. We’ll also announce details of the competitions on Facebook a few days before TeamBuilders so you can have a head start!
There’s BIG prizes to be won! But don’t worry if you don’t like dressing up or making crafty hings, it’s just some added fun and you don’t need to take part if you don’t want to.
Giving a helping hand
During Holiday Club, children are invited to bring items for Storehouse (our local food bank) – the collection box is located in the registration area. All items will be distributed to those in need in our community
Our rag bag collection point is also situated at the Registration Area. So if you have any clothes you’d like to get rid off then bring them to Church! (ragbag proceeds go towards Church funds).
