2019 Moderators Award Winner!
Cafe Connect is our award winning programme which gives a space for the children of Deanburn EPS to develop their life and social skills. By building inter generational relationships, it also helps tackle the increasing issue of loneliness experienced by many within our community.
Before the cafe opens, the children prepare the refreshments, set the tables etc as this gives a great opportunity to help grow their independence. That’s followed by an hour of activities, games and chat with the adults plus a lot of laughs!
The impact this has had on both the children and adults involved has been massive and we’ve had lots of amazing feedback like this:
“My child who is 5 gets so excited when she knows that she is going to the group. She has only been attending the group for 3 weeks & I can see a difference in her. She now wants to help make dinner, set table & clean up. The teacher & helpers puts so much effort into running the club.”
In 2019, this impact was recognised by the Church of Scotland who presented us with the Moderator’s Shield at the General Assembly. It was a wonderful day for everyone involved and the trophy has taken pride of place in our cafe!
We’ve also received funding from Aviva’s Community Fund and the Bo’ness Belles which has enabled the Cafe to grow from strength to strength. Our next goal is to continue to expand the cafe’s outreach into our community and we’re working on new ways to do this. Watch this space!
So are you, or anyone you know, looking for some company? Fancy a blether with a cuppa? Or want to join in a singalong of some old favourites? Then come along to Cafe Connect in the Church Hall every Wednesday from 10.30am to 11.30am during School Term.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, we’re not meeting at present but we’ll announce details as soon as we’re able to.
