Boys’ Brigade

The 3rd Bo’ness Company is part of the oldest uniformed organisation for boys, founded in Glasgow in 1883, and now established throughout the world. Although much has changed since 1883, our aims remain rooted in the Christian faith.

Our object is: the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys by the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.

The 2011 annual BB Camp was held at Dalguise. Here are some pics to give you some idea of the all activities and fun we had:

The Company operates in three sections, and welcomes boys from age 6 to 18. We meet in the Old Kirk church hall, with the year running from September to May. The year concludes with our Annual Parents’ Night and Inspection and Display.

ANCHOR BOYS
for boys aged 6 – 8, meet on Wednesdays 6.30 – 7.30pm.
This is the start of fun and friendships, the start of learning to play together and, indeed, for many the start of their time in the Boys’ Brigade.

The programme offers so much – including: games, songs, crafts and stories – all specifically aimed at this age-group. But there is more than they realise. They will find more because Anchor Boys offer many the first chance to work together, to cooperate in joint activity, to work (or play) as a team, to have fun and to learn some important life skills.

JUNIOR SECTION
for boys aged 8 – 11, meet on Thursdays 7.30 – 9.00pm.
The 8-year-old is at an age where he is looking to try new adventures and activities, and the programme on offer reflects this. It includes: physical activities, music, crafts, games and competitions usually undertaken in groups rather than on an individual basis. The award programme in the Junior Section is designed to encourage a boy to look beyond himself. It will help him develop his own interests and also discover other new activities and occupations.

COMPANY SECTION
for boys aged 11 – 18, meet on Thursdays 7.30 – 9.30pm.
When he joins the company section, a boy is still a boy. When he leaves it is our aim that he does so as a mature and self-disciplined young man, with a balanced view of the adult world he is about to enter. The programme is a development of the activities undertaken in the Anchor Boys and Junior Section, and concentrates on learning skills and knowledge in the Christian faith, leadership, adventure, community, interests and physical activities.

The company has charitable status (Scottish Charity No. SC034470) which enables us to benefit from the Gift Aid scheme, whereby income tax can be recovered from the Inland Revenue. We are able to treat the boys’ subscriptions as donations if one parent (who is a UK taxpayer) is willing to sign a Gift Aid form. Similarly, if donations from individuals are received under the Gift Aid scheme, we can again reclaim tax.

If you wish any further information about our BB Company, or know of any boy who wants to join us, come down to the Church Hall on the respective night, or contact our Company Captain: Mr. John Hendry 01506 510121

(All our Officers are vetted and undergo Child Protection training, and we ensure the highest standards of leadership.)
